MILWAUKEE (AP) -Brewers right fielder Gabe Kapler left Wednesday’s game with an apparent right arm injury after making a hard throw to the plate in the sixth inning against the Cincinnati Reds.
With the Reds leading 3-1, Kapler’s throw kept Edwin Encarnacion from attempting to score on Jay Bruce’s single, but Kapler, in the lineup for struggling All-Star Corey Hart, immediately winced in pain and grabbed for his shoulder.
At first he appeared to motion to his teammates that he was OK, but barely tested the arm before calling for time and the trainer. Kapler, who retired from baseball for a year due to injuries and became a manager, was hitting .296 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in 227 at-bats this season after signing as a free agent with the Brewers.
He was replaced by Tony Gwynn Jr.
