CHICAGO (AP) -The Minnesota Twins purchased the contract of catcher Jose Morales from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.
The Twins added Morales to the team while catcher Joe Mauer and backup Mike Redmond recover from injuries. Redmond strained a ligament in the middle finger of his left hand while swinging at a pitch on Tuesday, and Mauer has been out since Aug. 25 with a strained left hamstring.
Mauer ran before Friday night's game against the Chicago White Sox and hopes to return during the weekend series.
Morales batted .311 with 25 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 37 RBIs in 376 at-bats for the Red Wings.
