CHICAGO (AP) -The Los Angeles Angels called up reliever Jason Bulger from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday to help fortify a weary bullpen that got hit hard by the Chicago White Sox the previous night.
Bulger got the call after four relievers combined to allow six runs in 7 2-3 innings in Friday’s 10-2 loss. The right-hander, who was 4-0 with a 0.63 ERA and 16 saves in 37 games for Salt Lake, had a 6.75 ERA in six appearances with the Angels this year. He is 1-0 with a 5.84 ERA in 23 career appearances.
Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said the 30-year-old Bulger, who throws a fastball in the low 90s (mph) and a hard breaking ball, was more prepared to help the Angels this time.
“He’s worked a couple of things out,” Scioscia said. “Down there, he was really throwing the ball as well as anybody possibly could. This time, he’s much better prepared for what he needs to do and his stuff looks better on the mound.”
