– MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -The Minnesota Twins planned to bring up catcher Jose Morales from Triple-A Rochester before Friday night’s game at the Chicago White Sox.
The Twins made the announcement on Thursday, two days after backup catcher Mike Redmond strained a ligament in the middle finger of his left hand while swinging at a pitch. Redmond hurt the finger more than six weeks ago and had been playing with pain until his injury worsened.
Joe Mauer has been out since Aug. 25 with a strained left hamstring. He jogged lightly on Wednesday, but was still sore and did not appear close to returning. Chris Heintz is the other catcher on the roster.
Morales batted .311 with 25 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 37 RBIs in 376 at-bats for the Red Wings. He played in the Triple-A All-Star game.
