BALTIMORE (AP) -Orioles hitting coach Terry Crowley was suspended for Friday’s game against the Oakland Athletics for going onto the field to argue a strike call in a game two days earlier.
Crowley was ejected by plate umpire Jeff Nelson in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox. The call was made against Ramon Hernandez and ended Baltimore’s half of the inning.
Boston scored the winning run in the bottom half.
According to Orioles manager Dave Trembley, a coach is not allowed to go onto the field to argue a call. Doing so results in an automatic rejection.
Trembley, however, added, “Did you see the pitch? I don’t blame him.”
This is Crowley’s 22nd year as a major league hitting coach, the 14th with Baltimore.
