CLEVELAND (AP) -Cleveland Indians starter Jake Westbrook underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right hip and will be on crutches for four weeks.
Westbrook’s hip first bothered him during spring training. He flew to Nashville, Tenn., for an examination Thursday and Dr. Thomas Byrd performed the surgery there Friday.
The right-hander’s season ended in June when he had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. The Indians say the hip surgery is not expected to affect Westbrook’s scheduled return to throwing off flat ground around Thanksgiving.
Westbrook went 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA in five starts this season. He was sidelined early in the season for about a month with a strained oblique muscle, then felt pain in his elbow after his first start back in May.
