ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -The Oakland Athletics activated rookie infielder Donnie Murphy from the 15-day disabled list on Monday and recalled left-handed pitcher Dan Meyer from Triple-A Sacramento.
Murphy had been sidelined since Aug. 19 because of a strained ribcage muscle. He has appeared in 30 games and entered Monday night’s game 19-for-86 with four homers and 14 RBIs. He was called up from Sacramento on July 25 when shortstop Bobby Crosby went on the DL because of a broken left hand.
Meyer was called up after left-hander Jay Marshall left the club to attend his grandmother’s funeral in St. Louis. This is Meyer’s second stint with the A’s this season. He was a combined 8-2 with a 3.99 while pitching for Sacramento and Double-A Midland.
