DENVER (AP) -San Francisco activated left-handed starter Jonathan Sanchez from the 15-day disabled list to start Monday’s opener of the Giants’ three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.
The Giants also recalled Scott McClain, Steve Holm and Brad Hennessey from Triple-A Fresno. Catcher Guillermo Rodriguez was released to make room on the 40-man roster.
Sanchez was placed on the DL on Aug. 16 with a left shoulder strain. He was 8-9 with a 4.53 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 135 innings this season.
McClain, a 36-year-old left fielder, hit .300 with 29 home runs and 108 RBIs for Fresno this year. Holm was called up for the third time this season. The catcher was batting .256 with one home run in 45 games for the Giants this season.
Hennessey was called up for the second time. The right-hander made 11 relief appearances and had a 12.94 ERA in 16 innings in his first stint with the Giants.
Rodriguez batted .266 with two home runs and seven RBIs for Fresno this year.
