MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -The Kansas City Royals activated Brandon Duckworth from the 15-day disabled list to start Saturday against the Twins.
The right-hander had been on rehabilitation assignment, making five starts in the minors. He strained a muscle on the left side of his rib cage in mid-June and had been out since then. Duckworth was the fifth starter out of spring training, but moved to the bullpen after two starts and posted a 3.63 ERA in 22 1-3 innings as a reliever before the injury.
The Royals also recalled left-hander Neal Musser from Triple-A Omaha on the day rosters could be expanded.
