MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Miguel Sano has shown he has one of the most powerful swings in the majors, in less than two months with the Minnesota Twins.
In just 49 games, the rookie slugger has 13 doubles, 13 home runs and 40 RBIs, plus 33 walks for a whopping .989 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. Sano hasn’t played enough to officially qualify in this category, but the only American League hitter with 50 or more at-bats who has a better OPS percentage than Sano is two-time AL MVP Miguel Cabrera.
The discipline that Sano has exhibited at the plate, despite never playing in Triple-A, has made the Twins the most proud. Though his 74 strikeouts in 206 plate appearances are alarmingly high, Sano has 33 walks, roughly one every six times he steps in the batter’s box.
