CINCINNATI (AP) -The Cincinnati Reds optioned right-hander Ramon Ramirez to Single-A Sarasota on Sunday, less than a day after he been called up and made his major league debut with seven effective innings against San Francisco.
The Reds recalled utility player Wilkin Castillo from Triple-A Louisville.
The 25-year-old Ramirez allowed five hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts in Cincinnati’s 7-6 win over the Giants on Saturday night. He was in line for the win until San Francisco scored three times in the eighth inning to tie the game. Ramirez had been called up from Louisville earlier Saturday.
The 24-year-old Castillo was acquired on Aug. 14 as the player to be named later in the Aug. 11 trade of outfielder Adam Dunn to Arizona. In a combined 115 games at Triple-A Tucson and Louisville, he combined to hit .248 while playing 54 games at catcher, five at second base, 48 at third base, six at shortstop and eight in left field.
When he plays, he will be making his major league debut.
