CHICAGO (AP) -Ben Sheets was activated from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the Milwaukee Brewers and was set to start against the Chicago Cubs.
Sheets, on the DL since July 16 with a sprained finger on his pitching hand, also had some partial tearing of the tissue surrounding the tendon of the finger. He’s also been slowed by blisters.
Sheets is 10-4 with a 3.39 ERA this season in 19 starts. He was out for a 40-game stretch in which the Brewers fell out of first place in the NL Central and have won just 14 games.
A roster spot opened Tuesday when the Brewers placed right-hander Claudio Vargas on the disabled list with a strained lower back.
