LOS ANGELES (AP) -The slumping Los Angeles Dodgers recalled infielder Blake DeWitt from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, making room on their 25-man roster by designating infielder Pablo Ozuna for assignment.
DeWitt was optioned to Las Vegas on July 26, when the Dodgers acquired infielder Casey Blake from the Cleveland Indians. DeWitt, the Dodgers’ opening-day third baseman, hit .257 with five homers and 35 RBIs in 88 games before being sent to Las Vegas, where he hit .303 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 26 games. He was named NL rookie of the month in May, when he hit .322 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 26 games.
The 22-year-old DeWitt, a left-handed hitter, went 11-for-19 with three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs in his last four games in the minors.
Ozuna, signed as a free agent July 20 after being released by the Chicago White Sox, hit .167 with one RBI in 28 games for the Dodgers, two of them starts.
The Dodgers took a five-game losing streak into Wednesday night’s game at Washington.
