SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Giants right-hander Vinnie Chulk went on the 15-day disabled list before Monday’s game against the Colorado Rockies with a blood clot in his right hand.
Chulk complained of coldness in his fingers and will see a specialist for further evaluation.
“We’re not going to take any chances here,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re going to find out exactly what’s going on.”
Chulk has appeared in 57 games and is 5-4 with a 3.57 ERA.
The Giants purchased the contract of right-hander Tyler Walker from Triple-A Fresno to replace Chulk. To make room on the 40-man roster, pitcher Russ Ortiz was transferred to the 60-day DL.
Walker had a 1-2 record with seven saves and a 4.70 ERA in 20 games for the Grizzlies.
In addition, the Giants acquired right-hander Stephen MacFarland from the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete the trade that sent Matt Morris to the Pirates on July 31.
