NEW YORK (AP) -Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent was beaned by Mets starter John Maine in the fourth inning Sunday night and was lifted for a pinch runner.
Maine’s second pitch of the inning hit Kent on the side of the head, and the slugger immediately staggered out of the box. Manager Grady Little, third base coach Rich Donnelly and a trainer all checked on Kent, who appeared to be groggy.
The trainer shined a pen light into Kent’s eyes before escorting him to the dugout.
Ramon Martinez ran for Kent and stayed in at second base in the bottom half of the inning.
The Mets were leading, 2-1.
