BALTIMORE (AP) -The Chicago White Sox activated All-Star Joe Crede from the disabled list Monday, and he took over at third base for the completion of a suspended April 28 game against the Baltimore Orioles.
After the 4-3, 14-inning loss to the Orioles, Chicago added a fresh arm to its bullpen, recalling right-hander Lance Broadway from Triple-A Charlotte, where he was 11-7 with a 4.66 ERA in 24 games, including 23 starts. In two games with the White Sox this year, Broadway was 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA.
The White Sox optioned infielder Chris Getz to Charlotte to create room for Broadway. Getz was 2-for-7 with one RBI in seven games.
Crede had a rehabilitation assignment with Charlotte, where he was 2-for-16 in five games. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list July 25, retroactive to July 22, with back inflammation.
In 90 games with Chicago, Crede was hitting .255 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs.
To open a roster spot, the White Sox placed outfielder DeWayne Wise on the 15-day DL with a strained left groin. Wise batted .288 with two homers and seven RBIs in 35 games.
