LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers roughed up San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner as the hosts beat the Giants 9-5 on Tuesday, opening a two-game gap between the teams fighting out top spot in the National League West division.
The Dodgers have won three straight and the Giants have lost three straight to turn the tables in the West.
The East-leading Washington missed a chance to build its advantage and lost at local rival Baltimore, while NL Central pacesetter Chicago stretched its lead to a seemingly uncatchable 13-1/2 games by defeating San Diego.
In a clash of American League wildcard contenders, the New York Yankees won at Seattle with a sharply improved performance from pitcher C.C. Sabathia.
San Francisco’s Bumgarner has struggled in his three appearances against the Dodgers this season, going 0-2 with a poor 5.63 earned run average.

Arrieta allowed only a single in the second and a double in the eighth.
Kris Bryant hit his 33rd homer of the season, tied for the NL lead, and Addison Russell also homered for the Cubs.
New York’s C.C. Sabathia rediscovered his best form and guided the Yankees to a 5-1 win at Seattle.
Sabathia was 2-6 with a 6.78 ERA in his previous 11 starts but gave up just one run and one walk in seven innings in this one.
Jacoby Ellsbury hit a two-run homer for the Yankees, who remain in contention, five games off the second AL wildcard, despite having traded out many experienced players in a rebuilding exercise.
Kansas City continued its late surge toward playoff contention by winning 1-0 at Miami, making it nine straight victories.
Yordano Ventura escaped two threats while pitching six scoreless innings, striking out six.
The reigning World Series champions are now four games off the playoff places, having previously seemed out of contention.

Jose Reyes reached four base times and scored three runs, and Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits, drove in a run and scored once for the Mets, who moved within 3-1/2 games of the Cardinals, who provisionally hold the last wildcard spot in the NL.
Pittsburgh’s Ivan Nova held Houston scoreless into the ninth inning, setting up a 7-1 victory.
Nova struck out six, walked one and threw 69 of his 98 pitches for strikes while improving to 3-0 in four starts since being acquired from the Yankees in an Aug. 1 trade. His bid for his third career shutout ended when Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve led off the ninth with consecutive doubles.
After the Pirates scored four runs in the first inning, Greogory Polanco hit solo shots in the third and fifth to extend the lead to 6-0.
Cincinnati’s Dan Straily extended his surge since the All-Star break by pitching six scoreless innings to steer the Reds past Texas 3-0.

Chicago’s Carlos Rodon threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings to lead the White Sox past Philadelphia 9-1.
Milwaukee’s Hernan Perez hit a two-run triple in the seventh inning which lifted the Brewers to a 6-4 win against Colorado.
Detroit’s Cameron Maybin drove in three runs, including a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning, as the Tigers beat Minnesota 8-3.
