ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -The Rangers recalled pitcher Brandon McCarthy from Triple-A Oklahoma to make his first major league start of the season Saturday night against the Cleveland Indians.
To make room for McCarthy, Texas optioned right-hander Kameron Loe to Oklahoma.
McCarthy hadn’t appeared in a big league game since Sept. 20, 2007. He had been sidelined since March 30 with right forearm inflammation. He was shut down after throwing one inning in spring training.
The right-hander tossed 13 shutout innings in his final two minor league rehab starts for Oklahoma after a workout in Arlington with team president and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan on Aug. 7.
McCarthy went 5-10 with a 4.87 ERA in 22 starts for Texas last season. He made two trips to the disabled list, because of finger blisters and a stress fracture in his shoulder blade.
Loe was 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA in seven relief outings. Loe, who has had four stints with the Rangers this season, threw 9 1-3 scoreless innings after being recalled from Oklahoma on Aug. 16.
