MILWAUKEE (AP) -The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled left-hander Tom Gorzelanny from Triple-A Indianapolis and was given the start against the Brewers on Saturday night.
The Pirates also got some bullpen help, activating closer Matt Capps from the disabled list.
Gorzelanny was optioned to Indianapolis on July 5 after going 6-7 with a 6.57 ERA in 17 starts.
Capps had not pitched for the Pirates since July 1, when he went on the DL with bursitis in his right shoulder. He was 2-3 with 17 saves and a 3.12 ERA in 37 games before the injury.
Capps pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings in six rehab games in Pittsburgh’s minor league system.
To make room on the roster, the team optioned right-handers T.J. Beam and Romulo Sanchez to Indianapolis.
