PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Second baseman Chase Utley and pitcher Adam Eaton will play for the Philadelphia Phillies’ Double-A affiliate in Reading on Friday.
Utley, who had surgery on his broken hand July 27, is scheduled to play first base in the first game of a doubleheader and be the designated hitter in the nightcap. He’s expected to play second base on Saturday.
A two-time All-Star, Utley is hitting .336 with 17 homers and 82 RBIs in 100 games this season.
Eaton, out with shoulder inflammation, is supposed to throw 40 pitches in the opener against Akron. Eaton has struggled since signing a $24.5 million, three-year contract as a free agent. He’s 9-8 with a 6.36 ERA in 24 starts.
