SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -The San Diego Padres activated catcher Josh Bard from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, but he was not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants.
Bard, who has been San Diego’s regular catcher this season while Michael Barrett has battled elbow and nose injuries, had been on the DL with a strained right triceps since Aug. 9. He went 0-for-3 during a rehab start for Class A Peoria on Wednesday.
Bard missed 54 games earlier this season with a sprained left ankle. He was batting .209 with one home run and 12 RBIs before his latest trip on the DL.
San Diego optioned catcher Luke Carlin to Triple-A Portland. Carlin batted .154 with one home run and six RBIs in 33 games with the Padres.
