PHOENIX (AP) -The San Diego Padres activated right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
Tomko takes the roster spot left by right-hander Greg Maddux, who was traded Tuesday to the Los Angeles Dodgers for two players to be named or cash.
Tomko appeared in just two games for San Diego since he was signed as a free agent June 27, allowing one run on one hit in three innings of work. He was placed on the disabled list on July 8 with a strained right elbow.
Tomko started the season with the Kansas City Royals, where he was 2-7 with a 6.97 ERA in 16 games and 10 starts before he was released June 21.
