ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Rangers starter Vicente Padilla will miss his scheduled start Sunday because of an inflamed muscle joint in his neck.
Right-hander Dustin Nippert will instead start against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Padilla (12-6), whose start had already been pushed back from Thursday, felt discomfort and could not make his scheduled bullpen session Saturday. Rangers manager Ron Washington said the right-hander will start Tuesday against Detroit if he can throw on Sunday.
“If he can’t go Tuesday, the disabled list is a possibility,” Texas general manager Jon Daniels said.
The Rangers also recalled righty Kameron Loe from Triple A-Oklahoma and sent right-hander Tommy Hunter to Oklahoma.
Hunter made three starts after being called up from the minors on Aug. 1 and was 0-1 with a 16.36 ERA in 11 innings.
Loe has appeared in five games for the Rangers this season, going 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA.
