SAN DIEGO (AP) -The Padres recalled pitcher Chad Reineke from Triple-A Portland on Saturday to start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Reineke was set to take the ball in place of right-hander Chris Young, put on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained right forearm.
Acquired from Houston on July 22 in a trade for left-hander Randy Wolf, Reineke was 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in three starts at Portland. He was 5-9 with a 4.41 ERA at Triple-A Round Rock, the Astros’ top farm team.
Right-hander Cla Meredith was optioned to Portland to make room for Reineke. Meredith is 0-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 60 relief appearances.
This is Reineke’s second stint in the majors. Houston called him up on July 7, but he did not appear in a game before he was sent back to Round Rock the next day.
