PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Pirates and 20th-round draft pick Quinton Miller agreed Friday to a minor league contract with a $900,000 signing bonus.
Miller, a right-handed pitcher from Medford, N.J., went 6-3 with a 2.13 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 52 2-3 innings for Shawnee High School. He also hit .335 with six home runs and 23 RBIs as an infielder.
The 18-year-old, selected the top high school prospect in New Jersey by Baseball America, had signed to play with the University of North Carolina becoming signing with the Pirates.
On Thursday, the Pirates agreed to a contract with sixth-round pick Robbie Grossman, giving the high-school outfielder a $1 million signing bonus.
The Pirates had until midnight Friday to sign their top two selections, No. 2 overall choice Pedro Alvarez and second-rounder Tanner Scheppers.
