SAN DIEGO (AP) -The Colorado Rockies placed outfielder Willy Taveras on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and recalled right-hander Ramon Ramirez from the minors.
The move was announced by Rockies manager Clint Hurdle on Tuesday night after Taveras left a game against the San Diego Padres with a strained right groin in the fourth inning. He has been fighting the injury for the past few weeks and aggravated it beating out an infield single in the first.
Taveras is batting .311 with two home runs and 22 RBIs in 91 games. He leads the majors with 49 infield hits.
Ramirez, recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs, is in his third stint this season with the Rockies. He is 2-2 with an 8.32 ERA in 21 relief appearances with the Rockies.
