ATLANTA (AP) -Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez left Thursday night’s game against the Braves after bruising his left hip scoring on an awkward slide in the fifth inning.
Ramirez, who hit a three-run homer in the third, led off the fifth with a single and was on second base when Atlanta center fielder Mark Kotsay lost Geovany Soto’s fly ball in the lights.
The ball dropped for a double. Ramirez slid headfirst across the plate as second baseman Martin Prado’s relay to the plate sailed beyond catcher Clint Sammons’ reach for an error.
Ramirez lay face-down near home plate for a few seconds before walking off the field. He did not take the field in the bottom of the fifth. Mark DeRosa moved to third base from second, and Mike Fontenot came in the game at second.
