DETROIT (AP) -All-Star Placido Polanco was a last-minute scratch from the Detroit Tigers’ lineup Saturday night against the Oakland Athletics.
Polanco, who is one game short of Luis Castillo’s major-league record of 143 straight errorless games at second base, is day-to-day with a sore thumb. Ryan Raburn replaced him in his second career start at second base.
The Tigers also recalled relievers Eulogio De La Cruz and Aquilino Lopez from Triple-A Toledo to bolster an exhausted staff.
The Tigers have allowed 37 runs in their last four games, and have only gotten one win from a starting pitcher since July 19. De La Cruz and Lopez were recalled to replace Jordan Tata and Macay McBride, who combined to allow 11 runs in Friday’s 16-10 loss to Oakland.
