NEW YORK (AP) -Carlos Beltran was held out of the starting lineup for the New York Mets' game against the Florida Marlins on Saturday night.
The switch-hitting center fielder came off the disabled list Friday after sitting out with a strained muscle on his left side. Mets manager Willie Randolph said Beltran isn't where he wants to be when he bats right-handed so he decided to rest him against Marlins left-hander Scott Olsen.
``I'm not going to push him,'' Randolph said. ``(We'll) try to ease into this as much as we can.''
Randolph said he plans to play Beltran in the finale of the weekend series against Florida on Sunday.
Beltran hit a three-run homer in New York's 4-3 loss to Florida on Friday and is batting .263 with 20 homers and 65 RBIs this season. He had a .429 average with two homers in 14 career at-bats against Olsen.
