ST. LOUIS (AP) -San Diego’s Scott Hairston left Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth inning with a strained left side muscle.
Hairston, hitting leadoff for just the second time this year, hit a single in the sixth inning to left field and tried to stretch it into a double. He grabbed his left side about two steps before second base as he was beginning his slide.
The throw from left fielder Chris Duncan to second baseman Adam Kennedy was in time for the out.
A Padres spokesman said Hairston will be reevaluated in the next 24 hours.
Terrmel Sledge replaced him in left field in the bottom of the sixth.
