CLEVELAND (AP) - The Indians have placed starter Corey Kluber on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right middle finger.
The club announced the move Tuesday night, minutes before facing the first-place Detroit Tigers. Kluber pitched 7 1-3 shutout innings in Monday's series opener but wound with a no-decision when the Tigers rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to win 4-2.
Kluber did not mention anything about his finger following the game, and manager Terry Francona did not mention the possibility of a roster move when he met with reporters before Tuesday's game.
Kluber has been a pleasant surprise for the Indians. He's 7-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 19 starts. He's the second Cleveland starter to be sidelined by a middle finger sprain. Zach McAllister recently returned after missing six weeks.
The Indians recalled right-hander Matt Langwell.
