PITTSBURGH (AP) -Third baseman Jose Bautista was activated off the disabled list and was in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ lineup Wednesday night after being out for 2 1/2 weeks with a cut on his left hand.
Bautista, the Pirates’ starter at third most of the season, rejoined them after playing two rehabilitation games in the Gulf Coast League on Monday and Tuesday. Bautista injured the hand while making a headfirst slide against the Braves on July 14.
The Pirates did not have to make a roster move to bring back Bautista. They were down a man for Tuesday night’s 6-4 loss to St. Louis after trading outfielder Rajai Davis to San Francisco earlier in the day.
