CHICAGO (AP)-The Philadelphia Phillies activated outfielder Jayson Werth from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.
Werth, who was placed on the DL on June 28 with a strained left wrist, was on a rehab assignment with Class A Clearwater before he was called up to fill a roster spot created by injuries to outfielders Shane Victorino and Michael Bourn.
Werth is batting .235 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 42 games.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Werth could have used another week with Clearwater.
“I wanted Jayson to get anywhere from 35 to 40 at-bats,” Manuel said. “One reason we wanted to bring him back was he’s an athlete and he plays a pretty good outfield.”
