CHICAGO (AP) Touted pitching prospect Luis Severino will make his next start with the New York Yankees.
Manager Joe Girardi says the 21-year-old Severino will start at home next week against Boston, but didn’t specify when he would get the ball.
Severino is 7-0 with a 1.91 ERA at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He made his last start on Wednesday, striking out 10 while allowing three hits in six scoreless innings.
General manager Brian Cashman said Severino has earned an opportunity, and the Yankees need the right-hander for their rotation.
AL East-leading New York was quiet at Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline, opting to hold on to its top prospects.
