LOS ANGELES (AP) – Vin Scully is poking fun at himself after the announcement that he will return for his record 66th season in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ broadcast booth.
He joked on Wednesday that it’s a long time to be working at one job without advancement. The 86-year-old Hall of Fame announcer also says it’s a privilege to be calling games after all these years.
Scully said that at his age he’s hoping to return in 2015 and notes next April is a long time from now.
The Dodgers revealed the news on Tuesday night, when talking microphones featuring Scully were given away to fans. The crowd reacted with a standing ovation for Scully, who waved from his booth.
He says he doesn’t feel like he’s done anything and that he just happens to be at the games.
