SAN DIEGO (AP) -The San Diego Padres reinstated right-handed pitcher Chris Young from the 15-day disabled list to make his first start in more than two months on Tuesday night.
Young took the mound for the first time since he was hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of St. Louis’ Albert Pujols on May 21, breaking his nose and fracturing his skull.
The 6-foot-10 Young started against the Arizona Diamondbacks and was expected to be limited to around 90 pitches in his first major-league start after two minor-league rehab outings.
Young is 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 starts. To make room for him, the Padres designated outfielder Chip Ambres for assignment.
