CINCINNATI (AP) -The Chicago Cubs optioned right-hander Billy Petrick and catcher-infielder Jake Fox to Triple-A Iowa on Friday and recalled outfielder Matt Murton and right-hander Rocky Cherry from Iowa.
Cherry, 27, is making his third appearance with Chicago in his rookie season. He is a combined 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA over nine games in his two previous appearances.
Murton, 25, is making his second appearance with the Cubs. He opened the season with Chicago and hit .252 in 49 games before being optioned to Iowa on June 13. He hit .331 with six home runs and 27 RBI in 39 games with Iowa.
Petrick, 23, has no record and a 7.45 ERA in eight relief appearances with Chicago after beginning the season at Double-A Tennessee. He also has made for relief appearances with Iowa.
Fox, 25, played in two games with the Cubs since the rookie’s contract was selected from Tennessee on July 19.
