NEW YORK (AP) -Rookie reliever Joe Smith was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans by the New York Mets following Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Smith, 2-1 with a 3.03 ERA, made the team out of spring training and got off to a fast start but has struggled lately and gave three straight run-scoring hits Thursday. He was unscored on in 38 of 46 appearances.
