DENVER (AP) -The San Diego Padres optioned outfielder Terrmel Sledge to Triple A Portland on Wednesday.
To fill his spot on the roster, the Padres recalled right-handed pitcher Clay Hensley from Portland. Hensley was 2-6 and had a 6.90 ERA in 11 starts for Portland.
Sledge was hitting .216, with six home runs and 16 RBIs.
``I felt it would be better to have an extra arm for the last game here in Denver and the games we have in Houston,'' Padres' manager Bud Black said. ``Clay also gives us the versatility of being able to start or work out of the bullpen.''
