ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Oakland Athletics shortstop Bobby Crosby was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with two non-displaced fractures in his left hand.
Crosby was hit by a fastball from right-hander Justin Speier in the eighth inning of the A's 4-3 victory on Tuesday night. It's the fifth time he has gone on the DL in the past three seasons.
``It's not a great place to get hit,'' Crosby said. ``I haven't looked at the tape yet, and I don't know if I want to. But from what I hear, it's not too pretty. When I got the X-rays, I could see that there were lines on both those bones that weren't natural. But I'm trying to be as positive as I can. It could be worse.''
The 27-year-old Crosby was limited to 186 of 324 games over the previous two seasons because of injuries.
Crosby is the sixth Oakland player on the disabled list. The A's entered Wednesday 9 1/2 games out of first place after winning the first two games of a three-game series with the AL West-leading Angels.
``It couldn't happen at a worse time,'' Crosby said. ``I mean, we looked great the last couple of nights. This is the time where we normally get hot - and we are going to get hot. But once again, I have to sit down and watch it. I thought I was all done with this stuff.''
To replace Crosby on the 25-man roster, the A's recalled infielder Donnie Murphy from Triple-A Sacramento.
