ST. LOUIS (AP) -The San Diego Padres recalled right-hander Clay Hensley from Triple-A Portland on Friday, filling a roster spot a day after trading Tony Clark to the Diamondbacks.
It’s the second stint in the majors this season for Hensley, who did not pitch in his first one earlier this month. Manager Bud Black said Hensley would be used in middle to long relief.
Hensley is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in 16 games, including 10 starts, in the minors. Over parts of four major league seasons with the Padres, he’s 14-16 with a 3.89 ERA in 75 appearances, including 39 starts.
The right-hander began the season on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.
