WASHINGTON (AP) -Houston Astros starter Roy Oswalt left the game against the Washington Nationals because of a left hip abductor stain after throwing a scoreless first inning on Friday night.
The right-hander was making his first start since June 30 and has been dealing with pain in his left hip.
Oswalt allowed a single and a walk in the Washington first. In the second, right-handed reliever Chad Paronto pinch-hit for Oswalt with two out and Brad Ausmus on first via a single. Paronto, who jogged in from the bullpen earlier in the inning, struck out and remained in the game to pitch.
Oswalt is 7-8, and Friday’s outing lowered his ERA to 4.56.
