WASHINGTON (AP) -Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals with a strained rib cage muscle.
He was replaced in the batting order by Chad Tracy, who played first base. Conor Jackson moved from first base to left field, and Emilio Bonifacio shifted from left to right.
Upton was batting .242 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs this season.
Also, outfielder Jeff Salazar cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Tucson. Salazar was designated for assignment last week.
Salazar batted .202 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 58 games.
