OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Seattle starter Miguel Batista left Wednesday night’s game in the third inning because a strained right groin.
Batista walked gingerly behind the mound after throwing a 1-1 pitch to Oakland’s Donnie Murphy. Batista was helped off the field by Mariners head trainer Rick Griffin.
Ryan Rowland-Smith relieved Batista. A’s starter Joe Blanton warmed up in the bullpen during the delay.
Batista made his second start since being removed from the rotation. He began the game with a 4-10 record and a 6.27 ERA, and allowed Jack Cust’s home run leading off the second inning.
