WASHINGTON (AP) -The Nationals placed outfielder Elijah Dukes on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, one day before he will have surgery on his right knee.
To take his place, Washington recalled outfielder Kory Casto from Triple-A Columbus.
Dukes will have surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee Wednesday in Tampa, Fla., After the surgery, Dukes will undergo rehab for both the meniscus and a partial tear of his patellar tendon in the same knee. He injured the knee making a running catch in Saturday’s game at Cincinnati.
Dukes is hitting .263 with six home runs and 20 RBIs in 52 games.
Casto was optioned to Columbus on July 3 when Austin Kearns came off the DL. Casto is hitting .180 with one home run and seven RBIs in 23 games for the Nationals.
