TORONTO (AP) -Cleveland Indians catcher Victor Martinez left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday with a left knee bruise and was listed as day to day.
Kelly Shoppach replaced Martinez as the Blue Jays batted with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shoppach caught the final out of the inning, then batted in Martinez’s place to begin the sixth with the Indians leading 9-0.
Martinez, who fouled a ball off his leg in the fourth, appeared to be limping as he walked back to the dugout. He went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.
The 28-year-old Martinez is batting .328 with 16 homers and 68 RBIs in 78 games this season.
