CINCINNATI (AP) -Washington left fielder Elijah Dukes was carted off the field after injuring his right kneecap in the seventh inning of the Nationals’ game at Cincinnati on Saturday night.
Dukes slammed into the left-field wall backward after catching Jay Bruce’s fly ball. He fell to the warning track and flipped the ball to center fielder Roger Bernadina, who returned it to the infield and went back to check on Dukes before calling for help.
Dukes held his right knee while laying on the ground and being carted off. He was being evaluated by the Reds’ medical staff.
Dukes went into the game hitting .262 and was 1-for-3 with a double. The score was 1-1 at the time of the injury.
Second baseman Willie Harris was moved to left field and Ronnie Belliard went in at second base.
