 NEW YORK (AP) -Johan Santana pitched seven crisp innings to win his fourth straight start and Jason Kubel hit a tiebreaking homer that helped the Minnesota Twins beat the New York Yankees 6-2 on Wednesday.
Santana (10-6) gave up two runs and four hits, struck out five and walked two. The All-Star left-hander hasn't lost since June 9 against Washington.
Luis Rodriguez also hit a two-run homer for the Twins, who snapped a three-game losing streak during which they scored only one run.
Hideki Matsui hit his ninth homer for the Yankees, who dropped to 3-3 on a 10-game homestand that takes them up to the All-Star break.
New York led 2-1 before Michael Cuddyer drove in Jason Bartlett with a groundout in the sixth. The Twins went ahead in the seventh when Torii Hunter led off with a double and Kubel hit the next pitch from Mike Mussina (4-6) just over the wall in right for his sixth homer.
Red Sox 7, Devil Rays 5
BOSTON (AP) - All-Star Mike Lowell homered to help carry a lineup of Red Sox reserves, and Tim Wakefield cruised through six innings to send Tampa Bay to its 10th consecutive loss.
Wakefield (9-8) left with a 7-1 lead, after three of the first four batters he faced in the seventh singled. The knuckleballer was charged with four runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings, walking two and striking out two for his fourth win in five starts.
Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 20th save.
Edwin Jackson (1-9), coming off his two best starts of the season, allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five. He faced a Boston lineup that was without starters Manny Ramirez, Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia and Jason Varitek.
