CINCINNATI (AP) -The San Francisco Giants put left-handed reliever Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with strained muscles in his side.
Right-hander Scott Atchison was called up from Triple-A Fresno to take his place.
Sanchez felt soreness in his side when he was warming up Saturday and hasn't pitched since. The move to the disabled list was retroactive to June 25.
Sanchez was 1-1 with a 3.96 earned run average in 22 appearances. Opponents were hitting .211 off him.
Atchison was sent to the minors at the end of spring training. He went 2-2 with a 2.11 earned run average in one start and 19 relief appearances for Fresno, picking up four saves.
