CINCINNATI (AP) -The Cincinnati Reds claimed infielder Andy Phillips off waivers from the New York Mets on Thursday and optioned right-hander Daryl Thompson to Triple-A Louisville.
Phillips, 31, is back for his second stint of the season with the Reds. He played in 15 games from May 29 to June 22 before being designated for assignment to make room for the return of infielder Jeff Keppinger.
He was claimed by the Mets and went 1-for-5 in four games before being designated for assignment on Tuesday.
Thompson, 22, was 0-2 with a 6.91 earned-run average in three starts for the Reds after being recalled from Louisville on June 21. He allowed hits to the first five batters he faced while falling behind 4-0 in the first inning against Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
